Whenever you connect cables to the TCC card, use a wrist-strap or other grounding device to prevent
ESD damage.
Connect the DTI ports to the DTI server. The port can be connected either to the Root Server, or the
subtending Slave Server, such that all ports have a common Root Server.
Note
Cables used to connect the TCC card to a DTI server must use standard RJ-45 (female) terminated
10BaseT UTP Ethernet cables. Cables must not be longer than 200 meters and be category 5E or more.

Cabling the Line Cards

This section describes the cabling procedure for the line card.s
Preventing ESD Damage
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage, which occurs when electronic cards or components are
improperly handled, can result in complete or intermittent failures. The DS-48 line card printed circuit
board is fixed in a metal carrier. Although the metal carrier helps to protect the cards from ESD, use an
antistatic strap each time you handle the modules or connect cables.
Following are the guidelines for preventing ESD damage:

For safety, periodically check the resistance value of the antistatic strap. The measurement should be
between 1 and 10 megohms.

Always use an ESD-preventive wrist or ankle strap and ensure that it makes good skin contact.
Before removing a card from the chassis, connect the equipment end of the strap to a bare metal,
unpainted surface on the chassis or rack-mount. Ensure that the chassis and/or rack has a grounding
cable installed. For more information, see the

Handle the components by the carrier edges only. Avoid touching the card components or any
connector pins.
When removing a module, place it on an antistatic surface or in a static shielding bag. If the module
will be returned to the factory, immediately place it in a static shielding bag.
Avoid contact between the modules and your clothing. The wrist-strap protects the card from ESD
voltages on the body only, ESD voltages on clothing can still cause damage.
