Battery

The b attery is m aintenanc e-free.

Warning
Have battery changes carried out by a
work shop who knows the la ws
concerning the disposal of used ba tteries
and therefore protects the environm ent
and your health.
Retrofitted electric al or electronic
accessories can pla ce an additional loa d
on the b attery or even discharge the
battery. C onsult a workshop rega rd ing
tec hnical p ossibilities, such a s fitting
a m ore powerful b attery.
Lay ing up the v ehicle for m ore than
4 weeks can lead to battery discharge,
whic h may reduce the service life of the
battery. Disconnect battery from on-board
power supply b y detaching negative
terminal.
Ensure that the ignition is switched off
before connecting battery. Then perform
the follow ing actions:
z Set date and time in the ra dio disp la y –
see section "Infota inm ent system 3 " on
page 78.
In order to prevent the battery from
discharging, some consumers such as the
courtesy lamps automatically switch off
after approx . 20 minutes.

Protection o f
elec tro nic components
In order to prev ent faults in elec tronic
components in the electrical system, never
connect or d isconnect b attery w ith the
eng ine running or the ignition sw itc hed on.
N ever sta rt engine w ith b attery
disconnected , e.g. when starting using
jump leads.
To av oid damaging the vehic le, d o not
ma ke a ny modifications to the electrical
system, e. g. connecting ad ditional
consum ers or tampering with electronic
control units (chip tuning).

Warnin g
Electronic ignition systems use a v ery
hig h voltage. Do not touch the ignition
sy stem; da ng er to life.
Disconnecting/connecting the b attery
from /t o the electr ical syst em
Disconnect the b attery from the vehic le
electrical system before charging :
First detach the negative and then the
positive lea d. Do not reverse the p ola rity of
the battery, i.e. do not confuse the
term ina ls for the positive and negative
leads. When connecting, start with the
positive lead a nd then connect the
neg ative lead.
