Antifreeze and corrosion protecti on
Before the start of the cold weather season,
have the coolant checked for correct
concentration.
The a mount of antifreeze must p rov ide
protection up to ap prox . – 28 °C . If the
antifreez e concentration is too low, this
red uces protection from freezing and
corrosion. Top up antifreeze if necessary.
If coolant loss is topped up with water,
have concentration checked and add
anti-freez e if necessa ry .
Coolant lev el
Hardly a ny losses occur since the cooling
sy stem is sealed and it is thus rarely
necessary to top up the coolant.
The coolant should be just ab ov e the arrow
marked CO LD FILL in the expansion tank
with a cold cooling system. The coolant
level can be rea d from the outside of the
exp ansion tank.

Warning
Allow engine to cool down before
rem oving coola nt filler cap . Rem ov e filler
cap carefully so that p ressure can escape
slow ly, otherwise there is a risk of
scalding.
Self-help, vehicle care
When the engine is at op erating
temperature the coolant level rises. I t falls
aga in when the system cools. If it falls
below the C OLD FILL m ark when the
system is cold, top up to the mark.
Top up a ntifreeze. If no antifreeze is
av ailable, top up with clean tap water.
If tap water is unavailab le, distilled water
can b e used.
After topping up with drink ing water or
distilled w ater, c heck the antifreeze level
and a dd antifreeze if required. Have the
cause of the coolant loss rectified by a
workshop.
Too low a coolant level can cause engine
dam age.
To close, position the cap and screw it into
place.
