Note: A bad power cable connection to the drive or noise on the data cable may cause a false 1788 error message.
If a bad power cable connection causes this error message and not because of an incorrect drive replacement, repair
the connection and press F2. If this message was not due to a bad power cable connection and no drive replacement
took place, this error message may indicate noise on the data cable. Check cable for proper routing.

Turn off system, and check
SCSI cable connections to make
sure drives are attached
properly.
Run the Compaq System
Configuration Utility.
Turn system power off and
swap SCSI power connectors to
prevent data loss.
Run Array Diagnostic Utility if
previous positions are unknown.
Then turn system power Off and
move drives to their original
positions.
Run Array Diagnostic Utility if
previous positions are unknown.
Then turn the system power off,
and move the drives to their
original positions.
To avoid data loss, turn the
system power off and reattach
the drives to the original
controller.
To avoid data loss, reattach the
drives to the original controller,
or upgrade the controller
firmware to the version of the
original controller, using Option
ROMPaq.
