Chapter 8: Upgrading Communication Manager
This document provides a high-level list of tasks for upgrading Communication Manager from
2.x to 3.0 on an S8300 in either ICC or LSP mode.
Note:
It is assumed that the media server in use is an S8300B running Communication
Note:
Manager release 2.1 or higher.
To complete these tasks, you will need the following additional documents:
Installation and Upgrades for Avaya G700 Media Gateway and Avaya S8300 Media
Server, 555-234-100. To obtain this document, go to
navigate to Installations, Migrations, Upgrades & Configurations; then select the
appropriate document.
Administrator Guide for Avaya Communication Manager, 03-300509.
The tasks include:
1. If IA770 is in use (ICC mode), get IA770 data and stop IA770.
2. Backup all system files — translation, OS, and security backup sets.
3. Install the pre-upgrade software service pack.
4. Install the new license file.
5. Install the new authentication file.
6. Save Translations.
7. Upgrade the S8300B, using the Web Interface, Manage Software screens.
8. Upgrade the G700 Media Gateway firmware.
9. Install post-upgrade IA770 service pack, if any (ICC mode).
Follow the detailed procedures in Installation and Upgrades for Avaya G700 Media Gateway
and Avaya S8300 Media Server, 555-234-100, Issue 8, April 2005, for most of the tasks in this
upgrade scenario.
