Occupant Protection
Removing and installing airbag
control unit (J 234)
1 - Control unit connector
2 - Nut
♦ 8 Nm
3 - Control unit
♦ removing:
-
Disconnect earth strap of battery.
-
Remove right footwell trim panel on
driver side.
-
If necessary, cut into carpet and sound
insulation mats in the area of control
unit.
-
Turn over locking arm of control unit
connector -1- far enough until it locks
in place again.
-
Unplug connector -1-.
-
Unscrew nuts -2- (3x).
-
Take out control unit -3-.
♦ installing:
-
Installation is carried out in the reverse
order.
Notes:
♦ If the control unit is replaced, it must then be
coded ⇒ page 01-10.
♦ If the earth strap of the battery is discon-
nected and reconnected, it is then neces-
sary to carry out additional operations
⇒ Electrical System, Repair Group 27.
Disposing of pyrotechnical parts
prior to scrapping vehicle
In accordance with the accident prevention regu-
lations, airbag units and belt tensioners must
be rendered safe against unintentional explo-
sion (unintentional ignition) prior to the vehicle
being scrapped. It is essential to comply with
this regulation for unprofessional or unintentional
ignition (e.g. caused by cutting torches during
scrapping) can result in injuries.
