Removing and installing steering
wheel
Removing
-
Remove driver-side airbag unit ⇒ page 69-11
(only on models fitted with airbag).
-
Remove steering wheel boss (only on mod-
els not fitted with airbag).
The steering wheel boss should be removed
in the same way as the driver-side airbag
unit ⇒ page 69-11.

Turn wheels into straightahead position.

Unplug connector from restoring ring.
K -
Remove screw -1- and mark the position of
the steering wheel -2- and of the steering
column -3- to each other.

Take off steering wheel.
Warning!
Do not twist restoring ring (does not apply to
steering wheel fitted with airbag).
Proceed carefully when pulling off the steering
wheel; the plug connection below the steering
wheel must not be caught. Otherwise, the re-
storing ring and the winding of the slip ring will
be damaged.
If the restoring ring (and slip ring) are damaged,
it is then necessary to replace them with a new
part.
Installing
-
Turn the wheels into straightahead position.

Fit on steering wheel so that it is aligned with
the markings and tighten screw -1- to a
torque of 50 Nm.
Secure the screw with locking fluid.
The screw can be used up to 5 times.

Make a chisel mark on the front of the screw
each time it is re-inserted.

Insert steering wheel boss, or install airbag
unit ⇒ page 69-11.
