Check the Boom Wear Pads

Genie specifications require that this procedure be
performed every 1000 hours or annually,
whichever comes first.
Maintaining the boom wear pads in good condition
is essential to safe machine operation. Wear pads
are placed on boom tube surfaces to provide a low
friction, replaceable wear pad between moving
parts. Improperly shimmed wear pads or continued
use of extremely worn wear pads may result in
component damage and unsafe operating
conditions.
Note: If the wear pads are still within specification,
refer to Repair Procedure, How to Shim the Boom.
1 Start the engine from the ground controls.
2 Raise the end of the boom to a comfortable
working height (chest high), then extend the
boom 1 foot / 30 cm.

3 Measure each wear pad. Replace the wear
pad if it is less than specification. If the wear
pad is still within specification, shim as
necessary to obtain zero clearance and zero
drag.
4 Extend and retract the boom through the
entire range of motion to check for tight spots
that may cause binding or scraping of the
boom.
Note: Always maintain squareness between the
outer and inner boom tubes.
