2. Essential System Component Installation and Service
Purpose
This chapter provides instructions for the installation and removal of essential system components including
processors, memory, storage devices, riser cards, and add-in cards.
If you are continuing the system integration from the previous chapter, you may skip ahead to section 2.4
describing processor installation.
Before You Begin
Before working with your server product, observe the safety and ESD precautions found in the Warnings
section at the beginning of this manual.
Tools and Supplies Needed
•
Anti-static wrist strap and conductive foam pad (recommended)
•
Phillips* (cross head) screwdriver (#1 and #2 bits)
System Reference
All references to left, right, front, top, and bottom assume the reader is facing the front of the chassis.
Instruction Format
Each procedure described in this section will follow an illustration first format. This format will give the reader the
option to follow a quicker path to system integration by first seeing an illustration of the intended procedure. If
necessary, the reader can then follow the step-by-step instructions that will accompany each procedure.
