Adding or configuring a server fails with an error message that the IP address or host name
is already in use
Probable causes:
If you are recovering a server, you cannot use the Getting Started Wizard to join the server
to the cluster. On the File Servers screen, the Configure and Remove buttons are disabled. If
you attempt to add the server, and enter its IP address, the following error message is displayed:
<IP address> cannot be used to join that server to this cluster
because its IP address is already in use. If you are trying to
restore it, please use the local console.
Further, if you select a discovered server and attempt to add the recovered server's IP address
or host name to it, a similar message is displayed:
<Host name> cannot be used to join that server to this cluster
because its <host name> host name is already in use. If you are
trying to restore it, please use the local console.
Troubleshooting steps:
1.
Exit the Getting Started Wizard.
2.
Use the local console (ASCII GUI Configuration wizard) to join the recovered server to the
cluster. See the procedure for recovering a node in the Administrator Guide for your platform.
