Replace any gaskets that are damaged or do
not fit properly.
Replace any bulbs that are
burnt out or show signs of blackening. T r y the
lighting switches i n a l l positions and see that a l l
bulbs burn properly.

T w o adjusting screws on each headlamp pro-
vide for accurate aiming of the headlamp beam
on a l l 37 series cars except the 37-90. O n a l l V - 8
and V-12 cars the position of thc-headlamp beam
may be moved to the right or to the left b y turning
the side adjustment
screw located inside the
radiator shell.
T h e beam m a y be raised or
lowered by turning an adjustment screw located
in a depression i n the bottom of the lamp body.
The horizontal adjustment of series 37-90 lamps
depends o n the correct - mounting of the lamps.
The
vertical adjustment
is similar to the other
37 series cars, the reflector being tilted b y means
of a scerw in the bottom of the lamp body.
The headlamp beams are to be aimed w i t h the
lens and door in place i n order to avoid the possi-
bility of adjustment
being changed when the
door is reinstalled.
M o s t accurate aiming c a n
be secured w i t h headlamp
testing
equipment.
Several types of equipment now available c o m -
mercially will do a most satisfactory j o b .
If testing equipment is n o t available the lights
can be aimed using a screen drawn u p according
to the dimensions given i n the illustration i n
F i g . 27. T h e procedure when using the screen is
as follows:
1. Place the car o n a level floor 25 feet from
the screen.
2.
W i t h the lens a n d doors i n place, s w i t c h the
headlamps to the " d r i v i n g " position a n d cover
one lamp.
3.
T i g h t e n or loosen the adjusting screws t o
give the correct beam pattern as shown i n Figs. 25
and 26.
4.
Repeat the procedure on the other headlamp,
meanwhile covering the one already adjusted.
W h e n replacing the headlamp bulbs there is a
possibility that the adjustment m a y be changed.
Therefore, when a new b u l b is installed, the head--
lamp adjustment should be checked after the door
has been reinstalled.
17. H e a d l a m p M i s a l i g n m e n t
M i s a l i g n m e n t of the headlamps is often caused
by
workmen pushing
against
the
headlamps
when m o v i n g the car.
T h e headlamps should
never be used for this purpose.
18. Headlamp Lens Removal a n d Replace-
m e n t
T o remove the headlamp lens from a l l 37 series
cars, the following procedure should be followed;
1. Loosen clamp screw w h i c h is accessible i n a
depression i n the bottom of the door.
2.
R e m o v e door b y pulling frame outward at
the bottom and lifting from locator at top.
3.
Remove t w o wire retaining clamps located
inside of door frame.
4. R e m o v e lens.
T o
replace headlamp lens reverse the above
procedure, m a k i n g sure that the top of the lens
(marked) is at the top and that the door is replaced
w i t h the clamp toward the bottom.
