CHASSIS S H E E T M E T A L
General Description
This section covers such sheet metal parts
structed so that they can be serviced i n d i v i d u a l -
as
the
hood, radiator shell,
fenders,
running
l y without the necessity of removing complete
boards and splash pans.
These parts are con-
assemblies.
Service Information
1. Removal a n d Installation of H o o d
T h e hood m a y be removed in the
following
manner on a l l 37-series cars:
1. R e m o v e the nut and lock washer from the
stud on the rear hood bracket.
2. R e m o v e the two bolts at the front hood
bracket that fasten the tie rods, radiator assembly,
and hood bracket together.
3. L i f t hood, slide hinges off hood brackets,
and remove hood from car.
Installation—of hood is performed b y reversing
the above steps.
2. H o o d A l i g n m e n t
T h e tie rod adjustment nuts at each side of the
dash on 37-series cars hold the radiator in'position
only.
Proper hood alignment must be made by loosen-
ing all of the front fender and running board
bolts (except series 37-50 running boards) and
shifting
the entire
fender
and running board
assembly on the frame u n t i l the correct alignment,
w i t h the respect to the hood and cowl is secured.
Vertical alignment is then secured b y loosening
the radiator mounting stud underneath the front
cross member and
placing shims
(
between
the
radiator and the cross member u n t i l the correct
alignment w i t h respect to the hood a n d radiator
•shell is obtained.
3. Removal
a n d
Installation
of
Radiator
O r n a m e n t a n d Vane
R e m o v a l or installation of the radiator orna-
ment used on the 37-series cars is merely a matter
of removing or installing the three nuts and lock
washers which hold the base of the ornament
body to the radiator shell.
O n the first 37-series Cadillac cars, the glass
vane in the radiator ornament was locked in place
w i t h an A l l e n set screw.
D u e to the fact that this
screw sometimes came loose in service, a later
design employing a pin, spring, lockwasher and
fillister
head screw, as shown i n F i g . 1,
was
adopted on later cars.
In the event that the glass vane works loose, or
it becomes necessary to replace the vane in the
37-series
Cadillac
radiator ornarnent
for
any
reason, the second type locking equipment should
be installed.
T h e procedure
for removal or
installation is apparent from F i g . 1. T h e follow-
ing parts required to make this change m a y be
secured from the factory Parts D i v i s i o n :
