O n Fleetwood bodies, a plunger is
used, which must be depressed
w i t h T o o l N o .
H M B - 1 2 7 to release the handle.
Note: If the plunger sticks, tap the end of the
handle with a block of wood covered
with a piece of felt or leather.
Use this
same block of
wood to
reinstall
the
handles.
In the event that the door handle ferrules of
37-series cars become excessively loose, correction
should be made by installing a new ferrule assem-
bly
that fits the
handle
more snugly.
These
assemblies are carried in stock in the Parts D i v -
ision.
5. G a r n i s h M o u l d i n g S c r e w s
In any location on the 37-series cars where the
garnish mouldings are held i n place by screws that
are exposed to view, P h i l l i p s ' double slot screws
have been used for this purpose because the special
screw driver required to install or remove these
screws will not slip and mar the garnish moulding.
T h e special Phillips screwdrivers are available
from the H i n c k l e y - M y e r s C o m p a n y , of Jackson,
M i c h i g a n , U n d e r T o o l N o . B-206.
6. I n t e r i o r D o o r L o c k s
T h e interior door locks on all 37-series
cars,
except the V - 1 6 , have a press b u t t o n type lock
mechanism which consists of a rod extending from
a knob at the window garnish moulding down to
a pawl in the door lock as shown in Plate 5.
T h e interior door locks on the V - 1 6 s i m p l y have
a trip button protruding inside the door directly
at the lock pawl.
7. I n o p e r a t i v e D o o r L o c k
O n some of the early series 37-50 and 60 cars,
difficulty has been encountered
i n a few cases,
where the key for the door handle lock failed to
lock or unlock the door.
This condition is due to the locking pawl in the
inner end of the handle not engaging properly
w i t h the lug i n the lock, or to the lug being some-
what out of position.
T h e remedy for this trouble is installation of a
new door
lock, w i t h second
type
lug, and a
new pawl. See Plate 3, F i g . 8.
