11. CRANKCASE/CRANKSHAFT

SERVICE INFORMATION

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
x This section covers crankcase separation to service the crankshaft. The engine must be
removed for this operation.
x When separating the crankcase, never use a driver to pry the crankcase mating surfaces apart
forcedly to prevent damaging the mating surfaces.
x When installing the crankcase, do not use an iron hammer to tap it.
x The following parts must be removed before separating the crankcase.
Cylinder head ( Ö chapter 6)
Cylinder/piston ( Ö chapter 7)
Right crankcase cover/drive and driven pulley ( Ö chapter 8)
A.C. generator/starter clutch ( Ö chapter 10)
Rear wheel/rear shock absorber ( Ö chapter 15)
Starter motor ( Ö chapter 18)
Oil pump ( Ö chapter 4)
SPECIFICATIONS
Connecting rod big end side clearance
Crankshaft Connecting rod big end radial clearance
Runout
TORQUE VALUES
Crankcase bolt
Cam chain tensioner slipper bolt

TROUBLESHOOTING

Excessive engine noise
x Excessive bearing play
x Excessive crankpin bearing play
x Worn piston pin and piston pin hole
