CAUTION: lf you are using an extremely
efficient vacurlm pump, just crack its suc-
tion valve for the f irst minute - then slowly
open it. This will prevent the system oil
from foaming and being drawn into the
pump in large volume. lf this should hap-
pen, the system oil, containing trapped
refrigerant, will contaminate your pump,
and, of course, reduce the amount of oil in
the compressor.
5 . P u l l a v a c u u m f o r a b o u t 2 0 m i n u t e s -
t h i s s h o u l d g i v e y o u a r e a d i n g o f n e a r
500 microns, or 29.6 inches of vacuum
o n a c o m p o u n d g a u g e . A f t e r p u l l i n g a
vacuum f or 20 minutes, you can c los e
o ff the valve of the pump while leaving
the m icr on gauge in the syst em . Then
o bser ve t he m icron gauge (or c om-
p ound gauge) for a f ew m inutes. lf the
reading rises, you could have a leak in
the system.

C o n n e c t y o u r s i g h t g l a s s c h a r g i n g c y l -
inder t o the gauge m anifold and, after
p u r g i n g t h e l i n e , o p e n v a l v e " B " a n d
induce a char ge of r ef rigerant into the
system until it is pr essur ized to 35 or
4 0 P , S . l . G . T h e n l e a k t e s t t h e l o w s i d e .
Af ter leak t esting t he low side, r un the
compr essor for a few minut es and leak
t e s t t h e h i g h s i d e .
