Using the Segment
Table
Internal – disables the TRIG IN input and routes the internal trigger
generator to the trigger advance circuit. The frequency of the internal
trigger is adjustable using the trigger panel.
STAR – connects the trigger source to the backplane STAR line.
This serves as common trigger line to all modules.
TTLT0 to TTLT7 – connects the trigger source to one of eight back-
plane trigger lines.
Besides the grouped controls, there are five other buttons available
on the Arbitrary & Sequence Panel. These buttons provide access to
(from top to bottom) Wave Composer, Sequence Table, Segment
Table, and Main Panel. The last button removes the Arbitrary & Se-
quence Panel from the screen. The Wave Composer is discussed
separately in this chapter. The Segment and Sequence Tables are
described below.
To learn more about segment control, refer to section 4 of this man-
ual. The 3155 generates arbitrary waveforms, but before it can gen-
erate anything, waveforms must be downloaded to the instrument
from a host computer. The waveforms are downloaded and stored in
the 3155 in "waveform memory". Waveform memory is 1Meg in size.
Having such a long memory to store waveforms does not necessarily
mean that you have to use the entire memory every time you down-
load a waveform. On the contrary, the 3155 allows segmentation of
memory so that up to 4096 smaller waveforms can be stored in
waveform memory. There are two ways to divide the waveform
memory in segments: Define a segment and load it with waveform
data, define the next and load with data, then the third, etc. The sec-
ond alternative is to use what WaveCAD has to offer and to design
one long waveform which contains many smaller segments and
download it to the instrument in one shot. Then, download a segment
table which splits the entire waveform memory into the desired seg-
ment sizes.

Click on the To Segment Table button. A dialog box as shown in Fig-
ure 3-6 will pop up.
