MAINTENANCE AND CARE – Catalytic Converter

CATALYTIC CONVERTER

To reduce exhaust pollution, the vehicle is fitted with a diesel oxidation
catalytic converter. The two way catalytic converter has coating of precious
metals which enables conversion of pollutants in the engine exhaust, reducing
vehicle emissions. Vehicles equipped with the DICOR engine use two catalytic
converters, one upstream and one downstream in the exhaust system.
The catalytic converter does not require any regular maintenance. Always
use the recommended fuel with a maximum sulfur content of 0.05% for BS-II
engines and 0.025% for DICOR and BS-III engines.
The catalytic converter gets extremely hot. Do not park the vehicle
5
over debris such as leaves, dry grass, trash, etc. that may ignite
from the heat generated by these components. Severe burns,
death, and vehicle damage may occur.
Damage to the catalytic converter may occur if the incorrect fuel is
used in the vehicle.

EGR SYSTEM

To reduce exhaust pollution, the vehicle is fitted with exhaust gas recirculation
(EGR) system. The continuously variable EGR valve is controlled by ECU. A
controlled amount of exhaust gas is mixed with intake air, in part load and part
throttle condition. The EGR system consists of
1. EGR valve
2. EGR Pipe.
3. Electronic Vacuum Regulating Valve (EVRV)
