STARTING & DRIVING – Adverse Conditions
DRIVING IN ADVERSE CONDITIONS
Rain
Driving in the rain decreases traction and visibility. When driving in wet and
rainy conditions, observe the following tips:
•
Wipers - Check the wipers and wiper blades for proper operation.
Replace wiper blades that are worn or jump.
•
Defogger - If fog or mist appears on the windshield, use the front and rear
defoggers to clear the windshield.

•
Brakes and Steering - Make sure the vehicle steers and brakes
properly.
Never inflate tyres over the manufacturer's maximum cold tyre
pressure! Over-inflation may cause the tyres to explode, causing
severe injury or death.
•
Tyres - Check for proper tyre pressure and wear. Excessively worn tyres
will not produce adequate traction.
•
Lights - For visibility, turn lights on while driving in the rain. Verify all
lights illuminate. Use fog lamps (as equipped) when necessary.
•
Increase Following Distance - Wet roads increase braking distance.
Increase the distance behind the vehicle in front to allow adequate
stopping distance.
•
Avoid Hard Braking, Excessive Speed, and Sharp Turns - Braking
hard or travelling at high rates of speed, and sharp corners increases
the chances of losing control of the vehicle. Slow down and drive
smoothly.
