STARTING & DRIVING – Adverse Conditions
Night Driving
Visibility is reduced when driving at night. Always drive prudently and no faster
than conditions warrant. Observe the following tips when driving at night.
•
Lights - For visibility, turn lights on while driving at night. Verify all
lights illuminate and replace any burnt out bulbs. Never 'outrun' your
head lamps; always drive at a speed that would allow the vehicle to stop
in the distance the head lamps illuminate.
•
High Beams / Low Beams - When driving at night, always use the low
beam head lamp for oncoming traffic. Oncoming motorists may be not

be able to see when using high beams. Adjust the head lamp leveling
switch as necessary for proper illumination.
•
Turn Indicators - Always use turn indicators in advance to signal lane-
changes or turn intentions.
•
Fog Lamps - If the vehicle is equipped with fog lamps, use them when
necessary. Using the fog lamps will help to increase visibility.
•
Hazard Warning - Always use the hazard warning lights to alert other
drivers of the vehicle when parked in a vulnerable location, driving
slowly, hazardous conditions, or if the vehicle becomes disabled. Press
the hazard warning switch, 1, to activate the hazard warning lights.
