Chapter 5:
Exporting Data to Directories
Overview
Once the data from source files are consolidated in MasterDirectory, you can export the data to directory
replicas at predetermined locations on local area networks (LANs), enabling end users to directly access the
information. The export is configurable in a way that allows the system administrator to define which fields
of data from the MasterDirectory file will be exported to which fields in the destination file and the type of
destination file that will be created (for example, a PhoneLine file).
The definition of the export operation (which fields in the MasterDirectory file will be exported to which
fields in the destination file, the type of destination file that will be created, etc.) is called a map. Every
export operation is saved in a file with the extension ".exp." Each MasterDirectory file can have multiple
export maps, which can create multiple destination files.
