MasterDirectory User's Guide

Exporting a Directory File

Before you can export data from MasterDirectory, you must create and select at least one export map.
(Refer to "Setting the Export Maps" and "Creating Export Maps" earlier in this chapter.) The export map
(*.exp) determines what information MasterDirectory exports (for example, specific fields and destination
file).
With MasterDirectory, you can export data using the following methods:
manual export, in which you select the Export option from the Data Exchange menu and select the
export map(s) you want to use. The data is immediately exported to the destination file(s). This
procedure is described below.
scheduled export, in which you specify the time of day when you want MasterDirectory to export the
data and the export map(s) you want to use. When the specified time of day arrives, MasterDirectory
automatically exports the data. This procedure is described in Chapter 7.
build, which combines the manual import and manual export procedures and immediately imports the
data into MasterDirectory and then immediately exports the data to the specified destination file(s).
Builds can also be scheduled. This procedure is described in Chapter 7.
To export a MasterDirectory file:
1.
On the toolbar, click the Export Data button.
The Export Maps dialog box appears.
This dialog box shows the export maps you have created for this MasterDirectory file. By default, a
check mark appears next to each export map, indicating that the associated map will be run when you
perform an export.
2.
Select the export map(s) you want to use. Only those export maps that have a check mark will be used.
If the export map you want use is not listed, choose the Add To List button, select the map(s) you want
to use.
3.
Choose the Export button.
The data from the MasterDirectory window is exported according to the settings specified in the export
map(s) you selected.
A status box appears, showing the status of the export:
the total number of records in the MasterDirectory file
the number of records remaining to be exported to the destination file
