Step 12. Remove the socket covers from the microprocessor sockets on the new system board and place
them on the microprocessor sockets of the system board that you are removing.
Step 13. If you are instructed to return the system board, follow all packaging instructions, and use any
packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Installing the system board

To install the system board, complete the following steps.
Step 1.
Hold the system board by the handles and insert the system board into the chassis at an angle and
slide it toward the rear of the server until it engages into the tabs in the chassis.
Note: Make sure that none of the cables are caught under the system board.
Step 2.
Press down on the retention modules; then, rotate the release lever toward the rear of the server to
secure the system board to the chassis.
Step 3.
Install any of the components that were removed from the system board:
• Battery (see "Installing the battery" on page 159).
• DIMMs (see "Installing a memory module" on page 211).
• Microprocessor and heat sink (see "Installing a microprocessor and heat sink" on page 189).
• Adapters (see "Installing an adapter" on page 218).
Step 4.
Reconnect any cables to the system board (see "System-board internal connectors" on page 136).
