these instructions advise you otherwise. Windows and messages might differ from those

1.0 What you will need

You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:
A licensed copy of Microsoft® Windows Server® 2003 or Microsoft® Windows
Server® 2008
USB diskette drive and the RAID device driver diskette (Windows 2003 only).
(To create this diskette, see 3.1 Creating a RAID device driver diskette.)
A USB media device containing a RAID device driver might be required
(Windows Server 2008 only).
Depending on your server, an external DVD reader device might be required.
Supported hard disk drives. Go to
Lenovo® ThinkServer® Proven list of supported options and part numbers for the
server. You will need to set up the logical drive array before installing the
operating system.

2.0 Where to download device drivers and files
You can download the device drivers from the Device Drivers matrix on the Lenovo
Support Web site:

  • Page 2 To create the RAID device driver diskette, complete the following steps: 1. From an Internet-connected system with a diskette drive, go to: http://www.lenovo.com/support 2. To locate the RAID drivers for your server, navigate to the appropriate server. 3. Download the Windows 2003 RAID diskette (.zip file).
  • Page 3 3. Turn on the server and insert the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD into the CD drive. If you are prompted with the message "Press any key to boot from cd", press any key. 4. When you are prompted to Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver, press F6.

The names that you type are used as default server names. Applications that you install later use this information for the product registration and document identification.

To locate the device drivers for your server, navigate to the appropriate server and select the desired device driver. 3. Type c:\drivers\<directory name> for the folder where the files are to be saved.
