2 Preparing for the Upgrade

This chapter explains the steps to take before you begin the upgrade.

Tools You Need

To install this accessory you need the following tools:
An anti-static service kit (3M 8501/8502/8503 or equivalent). This kit
includes a static-dissipating work surface, a chassis clip lead, and a wrist
strap.
Several anti-static mats

T15 Torx screwdriver (slender enough to insert into the bezel hinge)
If you need to remove the NetServer from a rack, you will also need some
additional tools. Refer to the HP NetServer LXr 8500 Installation Guide and your
rack documentation for further details.
Back Up Your Data
Before you start the upgrade, you must back up all hard disk drives and verify that
the backup can be restored.
CAUTION
It is extremely important that you back up all data. After you
complete the hardware upgrade, you will clear your boot drive
and reinstall your NOS. If you have data stored on your boot
drive, make a second complete backup of this data.
