Chapter 4 : Windows Status Monitor

Introduction

The SuperScript 1260 Status Monitor gives you
many features to monitor your printer and print
jobs, including:
• Continually checks the status of the printer to
provide you with visual and audible feedback
on the printer and your print jobs.
• Lets you pause or resume printing, or quickly
cancel printing.
• Lets you print pages that demonstrate printer
features or show printer information.
• Gives you a quick way to change your default
Windows printer.
• Provides instant access to the SuperScript 1260
Windows Printer Driver and its special
features, and to the Windows Print Manager
(in Windows 3.1x).
The SuperScript 1260 Status Monitor shows you
everything you need to know about your print-
ing. When there is a problem (such as running out
of paper), it becomes visible and reports the diffi-
culty. It can even notify you about the problem
with a sound alert.

NEC SuperScript 1260 User's Guide
When everything is going fine, the SuperScript
1260 Status Monitor stays quiet and out of the
way, ready to provide details of your printer and
print job status at your request. You control when
and how it informs you of printing conditions
through the Alerts tab.
A Note About Bidirectional
Communication...
The level of features and the level of status infor-
mation available from the Status Monitor
depends on the type of connection established
with your printer. If your SuperScript 1260 printer
is directly connected to your computer, you will
be able to establish bidirectional communication,
by using a high quality bidirectional parallel
cable. (Due to differing serial port designs, you
may require a IEEE certified cable.) This enables
you to pause, resume, and reset your printer from
the Status Monitor. If you are sharing your Super-
Script 1260 printer via a printer sharing device,
features like pause, resume, and reset will also be
available, although only from the printer's opera-
tor panel, not via the Status Monitor. The section
below describes the various levels of printer
status.
