Chapter 9 : Troubleshooting

Maintaining Print Quality

This section has information about resolving
paper jams and other printer output quality
problems. Following are some suggestions for
maintaining the highest print quality from your
printer.
• When the print output becomes light, redis-
tribute the toner. If light print persists, replace
the toner cartridge. Refer to Chapter 8,
"Maintaining Your Printer," for information
about replacing the cartridge.
• Use high-quality paper or transparencies to
obtain sharp, crisp characters and maximum
contrast.
Refer to Appendix A, "Selecting Print Media,"
for detailed specifications.
• Clean the appropriate parts of the printer.
Refer to Chapter 8, "Maintaining Your Printer".

Simple Troubleshooting

Here are some simple resolutions to occasional
printer problems.
Power light is off...
Check that the power cord is plugged into a live
power outlet and the printer power switch is
turned on.
Power light is on but printer does not print...
• Verify that the On Line indicator light is on (if
it is not, press the On Line button).
• Verify that all interface cable connections are
tightly secured.
• Verify that the toner cartridge is properly
installed.
Paper does not output to the output tray...
Check for a paper jam or misfeed.
Paper does not stack correctly...
Check that the paper is between 20 and 28 pounds
base weight.
I turn on the printer and all the LEDs are
steadily lit...
Reset the printer to factory defaults. See page 2-9
of this manual. If they are still all lit, call NEC
Technical Support at 1-800-632-4650.
