Step 2: Start the NetBoot Service

Deployment Solution
1.
On the OS X Server that is hosting the NetBoot service, open the Server Admin
utility.
2.
Expand the services on the localhost.
3.
Start the AFP service (if it is not already started).
4.
Start the DHCP service.
It is not necessary to click enable. Running the service but not enabling any
adapters prevents your NetBoot server from responding to DHCP requrests on your
netowrk. However, running the service without adapters does allow your NetBoot
server to provide IP addresses when booting clients.
5.
Select the NetBoot service.
6.
On the General tab, select the volume containing your images.
7.
On the Images tab, select the Automation image and:
Enable the image.
Enable the diskless option.
Select it as default.
The NetBoot service also requires the AFP and DHCP services to be started. This is done
automatically on 10.5. On 10.4, you might need to manually start the AFP service and
the DHCP service.
On 10.4, after starting the DHCP service, it is not necessary to click enable. Running the
service but not enabling any adapters prevents your NetBoot server from responding to
DHCP requests on your network, but allows your NetBoot server to provide IP address
when booting clients.
NetBoot is now configured.
