If workpieces are narrower than or the same width as the top jaws, clamp them symmetrically in the centring vice.

If workpieces are wider than the top jaws, clamp them symmetrically along the entire jaw width in the centring vice.

Grease the guides
Check the centring vice for externally evident damage, defects and for opera-
tional effectiveness. Check the edges and guides for signs of wear. If it is dirty,
clean it.
