16 . INSPECT CAMSHAFT THRUST CLEARANCE
(al Clean and install t he camsh aft and -bearing caps.
(b) Using a dial gauge. measure th e thrus t clearance
while moving the camshaft back and forth.
Maximum thru st clear ance : 0 .25 mm (0 .0098 i n.)
Standard t hru st c lear ance : 0.08 - 0. 18 mm
(0.0031 - 0 .0071 In.I
If clearance is greater than the maximu m, repl ace the head
and/ or camshaft.
17. ME. A SURE VALVE LIFTER OIL CLEARANCE
!a) Using a micromete r, measure the diameter of the
valve liftEH".
(bl Using a dial indicator , measure the inside diameter of
the cylindEH" head bore . .
(cl Subtract the valve lifter measurement from the
cylinder head bore .
M axi mum oi l cle ara nce: 0 .10 mm (0 .0039 in.)
Standa rd oil c lea rance: 0.028 - 0. 053 mm
(0.0011 - 0. 002 1 in.)
If
clearan ce is greater than the maximum, replace the head
and/o r valve lifter.
18 . IN SPECT INTAK E, EXHAU ST AND NO. 2 AIR INTA KE
M A N IFOLDS
Using a preci sion st raight edge and feeler gauge, check
the surfaces contacting the cylinder head or intake
manifold for warpage.
Maxim um warpage:
All 0. 4 mm (0.0 16 in.)
If warpage is great er th an maximum, replace the manifold .
