Prepare the Library for Adding a Drive

Note:
This procedure is only necessary if you are adding a drive to the
library. If you are replacing a drive, make sure that you have followed
the instructions on page 7, then proceed to Prepare the Library and
Host System on page 11.

Background Information

The Spectra 10000 library supports either a single bus or dual bus configuration. This
feature adds flexibility and improved performance but also increases the complexity of
the library. You need to understand both the dual and single SCSI bus features to choose
where you will physically and electrically locate the new drive.
The Spectra 10000 library also supports a split bus configuration. This feature allows the
library to logically split into two separately addressable logical library systems,
essentially creating two libraries in one unit. The tape slots can be distributed in sections
of 10 so that only certain tapes are available to certain drives on a specific bus. This
feature is only available in the dual-bus mode. For more information on split-bus
configuration, refer to Chapter 3 in the Spectra 10000 User Guide.
Choose a Location for the Drive
There may be several options for the new drive location, depending on the current
configuration of your library. Use the table on page 6 to help determine a drive location
and configuration for your library.
