About this Manual
This publication describes the procedure for replacing an existing tape drive or adding
a new tape drive to the Spectra 10000 library.
About this Procedure
Caution:
An upgrade to AIT-3 tape drives should not be performed if you have
a single-ended SCSI library. Check the configuration of your library
by reading the the library's part number on the library's back panel.
The part number should look something like this:
A library that shows a letter X or S in the character field after the
second hyphen (shown above where the letter D is located) is a
single-ended library, and it should not receive this upgrade. A single-
ended library will not support AIT-3 drives. Contact Spectra Logic
Technical Support before attempting an AIT-3 upgrade on a single-
ended library.
Caution:
An upgrade to AIT-3 tape drives should only be performed with the
most current level of firmware installed on your library. Call Spectra
Logic Technical Support to verify that you have the latest firmware
installed. Technical Support can be reached at (800) 227-4637 or at
(303) 449-6444, extension 3175.
To perform this upgrade, you need to have some experience working inside electrical
equipment. You need to be familiar with the operating system on the host computer and
SCSI architecture, and you need to be familiar with the library configuration and how
to operate and configure the library. Information on how to operate and configure the
library can be found in the Spectra 10000 User Guide.
Note:
A current copy of the Spectra 10000 User Guide can be viewed on the
Spectra Logic Web site at www.spectralogic.com.
