Prepare the Library for Adding a Drive
When you determine where you are going to locate the new drive(s), record your new
location(s) in the table below:
Three of the carousel cartridge slots have dual purposes; they can be either storage slots
for tapes or pass-through slots to access drives. The absence or presence of backstops
determines whether a carousel slot is a pass-through slot or a storage slot. These
combination locations are marked on the top of the carousel with both the tape slot
number and the drive number.
You need to remove the backstop from a storage slot where the new drive will be
installed in order to make this location a pass-through slot. The table below shows the
drive numbers and the corresponding carousel locations that need to be pass-through
slots when a drive is installed.
For example, if you have a 20-tape carousel and you are adding a drive to Drive 3, you
will need to convert tape slot 22 to a pass-through slot.
Before removing the backstop:
Use your backup software or the library GUI to determine if tapes are installed
1.
in any of the storage slots that you need to convert to pass-through slots.
If a tape is located in one of the storage slots that you need to convert to a pass-
2.
through slot, move the tape to another location in the library or remove it from
the library and reintroduce it at a later time.
Go to Prepare the Library and Host System on page 11.
