About this Manual This manual describes the procedure for replacing the transport tray assembly in a Spectra 12K Library or a Spectra 64K library, and how to configure and calibrate the assembly after it has been installed. About the Transport Tray Assembly The transport tray assembly in Spectra 12K and Spectra 64K libraries moves within the robotic rack assembly.

    3. If necessary, move the library to a location where you have full access to the front of the library. Caution: The library is heavy. Get help when moving the library. • The Spectra 12K library weighs approximately 210 pounds (95.25 kg). • The Spectra 64K library weighs approximately 900 pounds (408.23 kg).
  • Page 7: Remove The Robotic Rack Assembly

Remove the Robotic Rack Assembly 1. Lower the transport tray to bottom of the robotic rack by gently raising the counter weight (Figure 2). Figure 2 The robotic rack counter weight is raised (Spectra 64K library shown).

  • Page 9 5. Using the appropriate screwdriver, loosen the screws just enough to move the gate out of the way from the robotic rack assembly (Figure 7). • Some Spectra 12K libraries have three screws in the gate, and some units will have no screws in the gate.
  • Page 10 7. Using the #2 Phillips screwdriver, loosen the screws that hold the robotic rack assembly to the chassis: first the top, then the bottom (Figure 10). Note: Some Spectra 12K library models have only four screws attaching the robotic rack to the chassis. • Page 16 9. Using the #1 Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the spring-loaded captive screws that hold the transport tray to the counterweight assemblies. There are three screws each on the front and back of the transport tray (Figure 18). Warning: Be sure to support the counterweights as they are detached from the transport tray in order to prevent the counterweights from falling and injuring your hands or fingers.
  • Page 17 11. Remove the outer-most two gears from both the front and back of the transport tray. These gears are the ones that engage the cogs on the robotic rack (Figure 20). Figure 20 The transport tray gears. 12. Carefully lift the transport tray off the alignment blocks and take it out of the rack (Figure 21).
  • Page 18: Unpack The Replacement Transport Tray Assembly

Do not discard any of the transport tray assembly’s packaging material. Keep all packaging material on hand for returning the old transport tray assembly to Spectra Logic. Failure to ship the old transport tray assembly to Spectra Logic in its proper packaging may result in damage to the product and may void the warranty.
  • Page 19 2. Carefully remove the transport tray assembly from the shipping box and set the shipping box aside (Figure 23). Figure 23 The transport tray shipping box. 3. Carefully remove the tray assembly from the anti-static bag. 4. Using a wire cutter, carefully cut the plastic tie securing the robotic picker to the end of the transport tray (Figure 24).
  • Page 20 5. Remove the small piece of foam from the robotic picker by pulling it gently outward (Figure 25). Figure 25 The robotic picker’s small piece of foam. 6. Gently rotate the robotic picker mechanism clockwise until positioned as shown in Figure 26.

Install the Replacement Transport Tray Assembly 1. Carefully place the new transport tray in the robotic rack and onto the alignment blocks (Figure 28). Figure 28 The new transport tray is placed onto the alignment blocks. 2. Replace the outer-most two gears on both the front and back of the transport tray. These gears are the ones that engage the cogs on the robotic rack (Figure 29).
