6. Attach the jack handle to the jack
and position the jack lift head under
the centre of the wheel, as shown in
illustration VEUD6_096.
7. Wind the jack up, by turning the jack
handle clockwise, until it contacts the
end of the securing cable assembly.
8. Continue raising the jack until the spare
wheel stops moving upward and is held
firmly in place. The secondary latch
has now released and the spare wheel
should now be balancing on the jack.
WARNINg
Do not continue to raise the jack once the spare wheel has stopped moving as this may
cause the rear of the vehicle to lift off the ground and therefore become unstable.
9. Lower the jack slowly by turning the jack handle anticlockwise. Keep lowering the
jack until the wheel lowers completely to the ground or is hanging from the cable.
WARNINg
While the spare wheel is lowering continue to ensure that the wheel lowers horizontally.
Please be aware that in some cases the wheel may lower on an angle or detach itself
from the jack lift head, if either occurs proceed with caution.
10. Disconnect the jack handle from the jack and carefully remove the jack. Use one
hand to push against the spare wheel, while firmly pulling the jack out from under
the spare wheel with the other hand.
11. If the spare wheel is hanging from the securing cable, go to step 11 of Changing a
flat tyre previously in this chapter then proceed with the rest of the tyre changing
instructions.
WARNINg
If you drive away before the securing cable has been wound up the vehicle could
be damaged.
12. Wind the extension bar/jack handle clockwise to raise the cable back up if the cable
is hanging under the vehicle.
WARNINg
• If any of the above spare wheel carrier troubleshooting events occur do not use the
spare wheel carrier to hold a wheel until the assembly has been inspected by your
Holden Dealer.
