Chapter 6
EMERGENCIES
40. Make sure the wheel is stored securely.
Check the security by trying to push
and pull  then try to turn  the
wheel, as shown. If the wheel moves,
use the extension bar and jack handle
to tighten the wheel carrier, repeating
step 36 to 39.
Note An alloy wheel with a flat tyre
should always be stored under the
vehicle using the spare wheel carrier.
However, storing it that way for an
extended period could damage the
wheel. To avoid this, always store the
wheel properly with the valve stem
pointing down and have wheel repaired
or replaced and installed back on the
vehicle as soon as possible.
41. Remove the jack handle and extension
bar from the lowering slot.
42. Replace the tools into the correct
storage position in the vehicle as
shown in steps 5 to 8. Pay particular
attention to the orientation of the
jack. Ensure that the jack package
is positioned onto the mounting bolt
through the top left corner of the jack
as shown.
WARNINg
As soon as possible after changing a wheel, have the wheel nuts tightened with
a torque wrench to 170 ± 20 Nm (Newton metres). Wheel nuts must be tightened
evenly to the correct torque in the sequence shown (refer to step 31), as wheel nuts
which have not been tightened properly could eventually allow the wheel to come
off while the vehicle is moving.
Always have the flat tyre repaired or replaced and installed back on the vehicle as
soon as possible.
The underbody mounted spare wheel needs to be stored with the valve stem
pointing downwards. It's secondary latch will not work properly and the spare wheel
could loosen and suddenly fall from the vehicle. If this happened when the vehicle
was being driven, the wheel might contact a person or other vehicle, causing injury
and, of course, damage to itself as well. Be sure the underbody mounted spare
wheel is stored with its valve stem pointing downwards.
