You should now be connected to the menu interface of your router, where you have a menu of configuration
options as well as the model number of your router and firmware version listed at the top of the screen.
The Main Menu of a Netopia router's menu interface will appear like the following Figure 6 below in Step III.

If you are unable to connect to your router using telnet, continue onto Step III. If you are able to connect,
try to open a connection with your Internet browser (ex. www.netopia.com). If you are unable to locate a
website by domain name, try by IP address (ex. 163.176.4.32). If you are able to connect by an IP
address, but not by a domain name, confirm that the DNS Configuration of your PC is correct (see above,
step 5). If you are unable to connect by either an IP address or domain name, skip to the Conclusion as you
may need to configure the Internet Options of your PC's Control Panel to connect via a LAN.
Step III: Establish a console connection to the router
Note: Only proceed with the following instructions if you were UNABLE to telnet to your router using Step II, or if
you want to configure your router using a direct serial connection.

If you have not completed the #4 connection for Step I, you must do that first.

Once you have the serial console cable connected, power the router off.

Open the program Hyperterminal by going to the Start Menu -> Programs -> Accessories ->
Communications -> Hyperterminal -> and double-click on the Hypertrm icon.

Enter a name and choose an icon to identify the connection.

For Connect Using: select the Com port the console cable is connected to, or Direct to ComX and select OK
like the following Figure 4 illustrates:
