Notes on Using Advance Decode Parameters
Before setting advanced features, the following setup conditions should be considered in time-critical
applications:
• Aim for around 4 pixels per element PPE . This is optimal for decoding performance. When the
PPE is around 8 or higher, enable Pixel Binning in the Camera Setup section of Advanced Set-
tings. Binning will reduce the resolution of the image. Prior to decoding, the number of PPE indi-
cated should drop to 50% compared to the original image.
• In applications that use Data Matrix symbols of a fixed size and fixed number of elements, use the
Optimize speed option. This will preset the decode algorithm to look only for Data Matrix symbols
with the Optimized dimensions and PPE, leading to faster decode times.
• Enable 2D Damaged Mode from the Symbologies section of Advanced Settings. This helps
decode symbols with distorted grids in the reader's field of view.
• Consider using the Curved 2D feature. It can improve decode performance when the Data Matrix
symbol covers a large part of a curved surface, such as a cylindrical surface. Large is considered
to be about ½ to a ¼ for the symbol-to-surface ratio in the image. Enabling the Curved 2D when
the Data Matrix symbol is small compared to the curve will increase the time required to decode
the symbol.
