Changing a wheel

You will find the maximum load-bearing capa-
city of the jack stated on the adhesive label
attached to the jack.
The jack is maintenance-free. If there is a
malfunction, please contact a qualified spe-
cialist workshop.
The tyre-change tool kit is located in the stow-
age compartment under the rear bench seat.
Preparing the vehicle for a wheel
change
Requirements:
the necessary tyre-change tools are available.

If your vehicle is not equipped with tyre-
change tools, consult a qualified specialist
workshop about suitable tools.
the vehicle is not on a downhill or uphill gra-
R
dient.
the vehicle is standing on solid, non-slip and
R
level ground.
Apply the parking brake.

Turn the front wheels to the straight-ahead
X
position.
Vehicles with manual transmission: select
X
gear 1 or reverse gear k.
Vehicles with automatic transmission:
X
shift the transmission to position j.
Switch off the engine.
X
Make sure that the engine cannot be started.
X
Place chocks or other suitable items under
X
the front and rear of the wheel that is diago-
nally opposite the wheel you wish to change.
If necessary, remove the hub caps.

there are no persons in the vehicle.

to raise the vehicle, only use the vehicle-spe-

cific jack that has been tested and approved
by Mercedes-Benz.

Using wheel wrench :, loosen the wheel

nuts on the wheel you wish to change by
about one full turn. Do not unscrew the wheel
nuts completely.
