If you operate the vehicle without AdBlue
with emissions-relevant malfunctions, the oper-
ating permit is invalidated. The legal conse-
quence of this is that the vehicle may no longer
be operated on public roads.
Engine management monitors the exhaust gas
aftertreatment components for compliance with
emissions laws and regulations. If you attempt
to operate the vehicle without AdBlue
®
diluted AdBlue
or with a different reducing
agent, this will be detected by the engine man-
agement system. Other emissions-relevant mal-
functions, e.g. dosage malfunctions or sensor
errors, are also detected and logged.
The engine management system subsequently
prevents the engine being restarted after issu-
ing a warning message.
Therefore, top up the AdBlue
during vehicle operation or, at the latest, after
receiving the first warning message via the on-
board computer (
page 103).

QR codes for rescue card

The QR code is secured in the fuel filler flap and
on the opposite side on the right-hand B-pillar.
In the event of an accident, rescue services can
use the QR code to quickly determine the cor-
responding rescue card for your vehicle. The
current rescue card contains, in compact form,
the most important information about your vehi-
cle e.g. the routing of electric cables.
Further information can be found at http://

There are electronic control units installed in
your vehicle. Some of these are required for the
®
tank regularly
safe functioning of your vehicle, some support
you while driving (driver assistance systems).
Your vehicle also offers a range of comfort or
entertainment functions, which are also con-
trolled by the electronic control units.
Electronic control units contain data memories
that can temporarily or permanently store tech-
nical information about the vehicle's operating
state, component loading, maintenance require-
ments as well as technical events and faults.
This information generally documents the con-
dition of a component, a module, a system or the
surroundings, for example:

In addition to performing the actual control unit
function, this data is used by manufacturers to
detect and rectify faults and to optimise vehicle
functions. Most of this data is stored in volatile
memory and processed only in the vehicle itself.
