Introduction

The FM-8/FM-9 from JADAK
technology to read popular linear (1D), stacked linear, and matrix (2D) bar codes. With its small
compact size it is ideal for decoding and imaging in space constrained systems. The FM-8 and
FM-9 are functionally equivalent, with the FM-8 being a "straight-on" unit and the FM-9 being
right angle. The FM-8 has a detachable cable while the FM-9 has a captive "pig-tail" style
cable,

About This Manual

This User's Guide provides installation and programming instructions for
the FM-8/FM-9. Product specifications, dimensions, warranty, and
customer support information are also included. JADAK's bar code
imagers are factory programmed for the most common terminal and
communications settings.
If you need to change these settings, programming is accomplished by
scanning the bar codes in this guide or by sending the serial commands
shown under the bar codes.
Note: An asterisk (*) next to an option indicates the default setting.

CAT-FM8M-XXXXL/ CAT-FM9M-XXXXL Class 2 Laser Warning

The most commonly used versions of the FM-8/FM-9 use an LED based aiming system.
Optionally, some versions of the FM-8/FM-9 contain a laser based aiming system that is fully
compliant with eye safety certifications.
CAUTION
Some versions of the FM-8/FM-9 use a 650 nm laser and a pattern forming element to generate a laser
aiming pattern which represents the imager's field of view throughout its entire depth of field. The
pattern's center dot indicates the center of the field of view.
