Trailing Arm Installation

Remove the rear brake caliper. See Brake Pad and Caliper Removal on page 6-12.
7.
Support the brake caliper from the chassis with a wire hanger or wire tie. Ensure that there is no strain on the
brake hose. See following WARNING.
WARNING
• Strain on the brake hose or the brake hose fittings can result in damage to the line or fittings and
cause a leak in the hydraulic system, diminished brake performance, or brake failure.

Remove the brake disc.
9.
Remove the bolt securing the rear shock absorber to the trailing arm (Figure 9-1, Page 9-1).
10. Remove the hardware securing the lateral links to the trailing arm (Figure 9-4, Page 9-2) and (Figure 9-5,
Page 9-2).
11. Remove the axle nut and push the halfshaft out of the hub.
12. Remove the lock nut and bolt securing the front of the trailing arm to the chassis (Figure 9-10, Page 9-4) and
remove the trailing arm.
TRAILING ARM INSTALLATION
1.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
2.
Tighten the shock absorber hardware to 70 ft-lb (95 N·m).
3.
Tighten the lateral link hardware to 30 ft-lb (41 N·m).
4.
Tighten the axle nut to 142 ft-lb (193 N·m) and then stake the nut to the groove in the halfshaft.
5.
Install the brake disc and caliper. See Brake Pad and Caliper Installation, Section 6, Page 6-13.
6.
Install wheel and lower vehicle. See Wheel Installation, Section 8, Page 8-2.
7.
Place bed locking pin in the stowed position and lower the cargo bed. See Cargo Bed, Section 4, Page 4-20.
8.
Connect battery and spark plug wire(s). See Connecting the Battery – Gasoline Vehicles on page 1-4.
