10. After the adjustments are completed, install the carburetor cover plate and tighten the screws to 40 in-lb (4.5 N·m).
11. Install the heat shield and tighten the hardware to 78 in-lb (8.8 N·m).
12. Place bed locking pin in the stowed position and lower the cargo bed (Figure 13-22, Page 13-12).
13. Start the engine, place the shifter in the FORWARD position and verify the vehicle doesn't attempt to move
forward. See following NOTE.
NOTE: Vehicles with a new drive belt may crawl forward, a response considered normal until the belt is "broken-in"
(approximately 15 hours of use). See Vehicle Creep on page 13-11.
14. If the vehicle does not attempt to move forward, return the vehicle to service. If it does attempt to move forward,
see Vehicle Creep on page 13-11.

HIGH SPEED ADJUSTMENT

WARNING
• To prevent engine overspeeding, the governor and high speed RPM must be adjusted correctly.
Engine overspeeding could result in engine damage, personal injury or property damage.
• Hot exhaust manifold! Use care adjusting the idle speed while the engine is running.
CAUTION
• Only adjust high speed RPM after verifying that the accelerator cable is adjusted properly and idle
speed RPM is correct.
• The accelerator cable must be properly adjusted and the idle speed set to the correct RPM prior to
any adjustment to high speed RPM.
NOTE: High speed RPM must be adjusted when the engine is warm.
1. Disable the vehicle. See Disabling the Vehicle on page 1-3.
2. Raise the cargo bed and secure with the bed locking pin. See Cargo Bed, Section 4, Page 4-20.
