Appendix D: MODEXT-4/MODEXT-8 Modem Upgrade Instructions

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
To install the Modem Module:
1.
Attach the black handle (item 3) to the MODMIM-4 module by poking
two (2) holes through the front panel label from the outside of the
handle mounting holes (Figure D-1). The mounting holes are clearly
visible from the back of the front panel. Hold the MODMIM-4 up to
the light, allowing the light to shine through the lexan label from the
front. Poke the two holes through the lexan using the point of your
phillips head screwdriver. Install the two (2) phillips head screws and
tighten.
2.
Install the four (4) 1-1/8" threaded nylon standoffs (item 2) into the
four threaded inserts in the MODEXT module and tighten by hand.
3.
Install the ribbon cable connector of the MODEXT module into
connector J9 located at the rear of the MODMIM module.
4.
Align the four nylon standoffs on the MODEXT module with their
mating holes in the MODMIM-4 module and snap together insuring
that the front panel retaining tabs are aligned and fully seated.
5.
Re-install the module into MMAC hub and power up.
Observe all antistatic precautions when handling electronic

equipment.

MODMIM POWER–UP AND TEST
The following instructions describe the power–up and test sequence to
verify that the modem upgrade was successful:
1.
Reconnect all the cables.
2.
Connect a terminal to the console port (port 1).
3.
Plug the MODMIM into the MMAC, apply power.
4.
Set MODMIM to Setup mode by pressing the Setup switch on the
front panel. The S/U indicator should light.
