CONSOLE PORT TERMINAL

Connect a terminal to port 1. You need this terminal to access the ROM
Monitor and boot the CSMIM2 for the first time. Set the terminal to 9600
baud, eight data bits, no parity, one stop bit, and XON/XOFF flow
control. The ROM Monitor assumes that this terminal is CRT-based and
displays the backspace (BS) character accordingly.
Press Set Up within 3 seconds of powering up, to put the CSMIM2 into
ROM Monitor mode. You can also reset and set up the CSMIM2 by
pressing Set Up until all port activity LEDs are ON, then press Set Up
again within 3 seconds to put the server into ROM Monitor mode.
The red ATTN light is ON when the unit is in ROM Monitor
NOTE
state.

SERIAL DEVICES

The CSMIM2 provides 16 or 32 connections, depending on the port
configuration. The MODMIM provides 16 serial ports as well as 4 to 12
V.32 bis terbo modems.
The CSMIM2/MODMIM serial cables conform to both the RS232 and
RS423 specifications regarding the data signals (TxD, RxD). However, it
is possible to exceed the specifications' cable limits given high quality
cables that are run in an electrically quiet environment. Cabletron only
guarantees operation with cables that conform to the appropriate
specification. Table 2-1 lists the maximum recommended cable lengths.
The CSMIM2 can incur damage if the cables conduct transients
!
such as those induced by lightning strikes, etc.
