4TEL RMU

The RMU measurement equipment requires the use of two digital loop carrier VF
channels; one for communication to the host-switch RMU measurement
equipment and one for use as a sample line for testing RMU equipment operation.
The recommended channels for these purposes are channels 3 and 4 of the first
MDS shelf in the RT bay. This is consistent with MDS shelves in cabinet
applications. Channel 3 is used for the sample line. Channel 4 is used as the
communications line.
In existing sites into which the RMU and LTF are being retrofitted, channels 3 and
4 will be utilized. The customer must be made aware of the usage of these lines. If
these channels have been preassigned, the operating company must then assign
another two channels for these purposes.
NOTE
The sample line and communication line (channels 3 and 4) should be iso-
lated from accidental usage by replacing the existing protectors with Ser-
vice Denied protectors (4C2E-W type).
