> Flexible Antenna (packaged separately) This antenna can replace the retractable antenna so that the handset is easier to carry when placed in the carrying adapter. On/Off The light next to this button must be on when you answer or make a call.
11 Channel During normal operation, press this button to change channels for clearer reception. In cases of strong interference, you may have to move closer to the base unit in order to change channels. If the handset is out of range, two short beeps sound to indicate that the handset must be moved closer to the base unit.

If more than one cordless voice terminal is being used, do not place a handset from one cordless voice terminal into the base unit of another. If this accidentally occurs place the proper handset in its corresponding base unit for at least 10 seconds. The range of your cordless voice terminal may be reduced when operating the handset around metal walls.
Directory Card These cards are provided on both the carrying adapter and the base unit to write the ICOM No./PDC and the names of the people assigned to them. Follow these steps: Insert a paperclip into the U-shaped hole at the bottom edge of the plastic cover (see Step 1 of Figure 5) and slide it upwards towards the top of the card.

Position the carrying adapter over the back of the handset. Align the snap legs with the recesses in the handset. Insert one snap leg into the recess while pushing down on the other snap leg until you hear the click of the snap.
PROGRAMMING CHANNELS If you have more than one MLC-5 Cordless Voice Terminal operating in the same area, they cannot share the same channels. You must pro- gram each of them to operate on different channels (0 through 9) to prevent interference.
NOTE: If two short beeps sound, the channel change is not successful. Move closer to the base unit and try again. You can also change the channel when you are not on a call. The Chan- nel indicator on the base unit shows the current channel setting (0 through 9).
Perform the appropriate step: For MERLIN Systems: Press ICOM and dial the intercom > number. The light comes on. For System 25: Press a System Access button and dial the PDC. > When you complete the call, perform one of the following: Press On/Off.

If any of your incoming lines has the call waiting feature, program a Recall button (#50) on one of the programmable buttons and press it before you pick up a waiting call. If you press On/Off instead, you’ll disconnect the call. For MERLIN II System users, if you program an Auto Intercom but- ton, idle line preference must be set to intercom.
