The light path should fall in the target area along the length of the slot. Readjust if
necessary.
You can now light the flame and optimize the signal.

Light the flame

Prior to lighting the flame, you must ensure that:

Check that the slot is parallel and centered on the light path by placing the
card at each end of the burner slot.
The working area is completely clear of all hazardous materials including
corrosive liquids and flammable solvents.
The liquid trap is filled with an appropriate solvent.
Fill the liquid trap with the solvent being used until the float just starts to
move.
If the liquid trap has not been filled to the correct level, or if the drain tube
has been left out, an interlock in the float prevents the ignition of the
burner. The interlock will also shut down the flame if the liquid level falls
below the required minimum during operation.
The drain tube is positioned sloping downwards and is free of kinks or sharp
bends so that the waste liquid can drain freely into the vessel. The end of the
tube must always be above the expected level of liquid in the vessel.
Dependent on the solvent used, ensure the ventilation tube is attached and is
