NOTE
Soaking the burner in nitric acid and using an ultrasonic bath effectively removes
soft chemical deposits inside the slot. The removal of hard carbon deposits
requires more significant physical effort.

10 Rinse with distilled water and allow to dry.
TIP
To speed up drying, dry the burner with a paper or lint-free towel, and then use
compressed oil-free air or inert gas.
NOTE
In the following the steps, ensure the card does not tear or disintegrate. This may
clog the burner slot causing uneven atomization at the flame, affecting sensitivity.
Use several cleaning cards if necessary.
CAUTION
Never slide the card sideways within the burner slot.
11 Insert a clean Agilent burner cleaning and alignment card into the burner slot.
12 Use a dropper to pour a small amount of metal polishing fluid on each side of

Prepare a bath of 5% v/v nitric acid solution in a container that is designed to
hold an inverted burner.
Submerge only the slotted part of the burner in acid.
Leave to stand overnight to soften the deposits.
Rinse with distilled water and place the inverted burner in an ultrasonic bath
containing dilute laboratory detergent for approximately 10 minutes.
