Check the gas supplies to make sure you have enough gas to complete your
analysis. Ensure that acetone is not drawn into the instrument by checking
that the acetylene cylinder pressure is above 700 kPa (about 100 psi) and that
the rate of acetylene drawn from each cylinder is not greater than 1/7 of the
cylinder contents per hour.
Set the delivery pressure of the gases to the following:
Inspect the gas hoses for damage, replacing any damaged hoses.
Turn on the gas supplies to your instrument and test all hoses and
connections for leaks. If a leak is found, turn off the gas supplies
immediately and rectify the problem.
Fill the liquid trap with the solvent being used until the float just starts to move.
If the liquid trap has not been filled to the correct level, or if the drain tube
has been left out, an interlock in the float prevents the ignition of the
burner. The interlock will also shut down the flame if the liquid level falls
below the required minimum during operation.
Develop or load a method - see 'Method development' on Page 69.
Optimize the system - see 'Optimization' on Page 74.
Set the nebulizer uptake rate - see 'Nebulizer setup' on Page 81.
Calibrate the system - see 'Calibrate the method' on Page 86.
