Multi Service Edge Device HL950
Administrator's Guide
MER allows the traffic to be routed in the MSED HL950 in an environment where traffic is bridged
towards the ISP. The payload format for multi-protocol encapsulation over ATM AAL5 varies for
bridged and routed configurations in accordance with RFC1483.
Two encapsulation (ENCAP) options are provided: Logical Link Control (LLC), which uses one
VCC; and VCMUX, which is used when VCC-based multiplexing is required.
The ADD command prefix is used to make a configuration record for new interface individuals. The
SET command prefix is used to set parameter values for the configuration record. The IF (interface
name) value is used for mapping to an upper-layer object and the VCNAME value is used for mapping
to the lower-layer ATM VCC individuals.
For detailed information about prefixes and parameters for the INTERFACE DATA WANAAL5
command, see section 6.5.4.

Typical DATA WANAAL5 Examples
To configure a DATA WANAAL5 interface, perform the following steps (default values are
underlined):
1. Add an ATM VCC profile:
HL950> add interface atm vcc:name=<name>,
type=<aal1|aal2|aal5>, vcc=<vpi|vci>,
srvtype=<cbr|ubr|vbrrt|vbrnrt>;
HL950> save (to store the ATM VCC profile)
2. Show all ATM VCC profiles:
HL950> show interface atm vcc
3. Add a new DATA WANAAL5 interface:
HL950> add interface data wanaal5
4. Set the DATA WANAAL5 interface:
HL950> set interface data wanaal5:if=wan<x>, ip=<ipaddr>,
mask=<mask>, vcname=<atm vcc name>, encap=<llc|vcmux>,
dmode=<routed|mer|bridged>;
HL950> save (to store the interface configuration)
5. Show all DATA WANAAL5 interfaces:
HL950> show interface data wanaal5
6. Start the DATA WANAAL5 interface:
HL950> start interface data wanaal5:if=wan<x>;
HL950> save (to store the auto-start configuration for WAN)
7. Show the DATA WANAAL5 interface status:
HL950> show interface data wanaal5:stats=yes;
